The Huichol are Native people from Mexico. Their art work is highly symbolic and colorful. The most notable mediums are paintings made from yarn or beads.
For this assignment, here is the "order of operations":
1. Monday: Find a LARGE format image to use as the template for your yarn painting. Set it up in Photoshop as we discussed (12x18, monochromatic, posterized). Save it as a JPEG with YOUR name as the file name.Make sure I have put your image on my flashdrive.
2. Use information in the PDF above to answer the questions on your hand out.
3. Select one of the images below. You will write a paragraph of at least 10 sentences reacting to this image.
4. Create a new document in Microsoft Word.
5. Type your name at the top.
6. Insert the selected image into the document.
7. Tuesday: Write your reaction to the image.
Describe what is going on in the image and consider the following questions:
What is the artist trying to say? What do the colors represent? Is this realistic or rudimentary?
Is this "high art?" What is the story behind this? What is successful about the image?
What is unsuccessful about this image?
8. Print to the 4050 printer.
9. Wednesday: Have your partner proofread and critique your reaction. They will make suggestions as to how to improve your writing.
10. Make corrections to your writing and reprint.
11. Thursday: We will begin to create our yarn paintings back in the art room.
